DP World, a global leader in supply chain solutions, has successfully completed the acquisition of Cargo Services Far East Ltd, a prominent logistics provider headquartered in Hong Kong. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in DP World’s ongoing expansion strategy, further strengthening its capabilities in offering comprehensive logistics solutions worldwide.
Cargo Services is renowned for its expertise in origin services, efficiently moving goods from the factory floor to the customer’s door. With over 2,500 employees, the company operates across Greater China, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and the US, providing tailored logistics solutions for industries such as automotive, chemicals, healthcare, perishables, retail, and technology.
The addition of Cargo Services brings DP World’s total workforce to over 115,000 employees across 800 locations globally. By the end of the year, DP World will operate more than 200 freight forwarding offices, covering approximately 95% of global trade flows.
Founded in 1989, Cargo Services was among the first foreign logistics providers to enter the China market. Over the years, it has developed an extensive portfolio, including origin purchase order management, ocean and air freight, and warehousing services for diverse sectors. The company is also recognised for its sophisticated supply chain management services for retail and high-fashion clients in key markets, along with specialised cruise logistics services globally.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “Cargo Services’ logistics expertise and global network perfectly complement our own footprint. Together, we’ll create a powerful force propelling trade globally, offering unparalleled value to customers seeking to strengthen existing trade ties or enter new markets.”
John Lau, Group Managing Director of Cargo Services, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the benefits of joining forces with DP World: “By joining DP World, we will gain access to extensive resources and expertise, allowing us to continue delivering top-tier freight-forwarding and logistics services.”
The integration process is set to take place over the coming months, with both companies committed to ensuring operational continuity and meeting customer needs. John Lau will remain with the business, assuming a senior leadership role within DP World to guide the seamless transition.
