DHL Global Forwarding, Deutsche Post DHL Group’s air and ocean freight expert, has offset the carbon emissions of all less-than-container load (LCL) ocean freight voyages. DHL is committed to making ocean freight sustainable and clean, in line with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s “Mission 2050 – Zero Emissions” as one of the world’s top ocean freight forwarders.
DHL has saved over 36,300 tonnes of Tank-to-Wheel1 CO2 emissions for all LCL ocean freight shipments using certified, sustainable marine fuels (SMF). In addition, offsets were used to compensate 52,800 tonnes of CO2 emissions (Well-to-Wheel2) connected to pick-up and delivery from and to ports in the previous year.

This marks an important step for us at DHL Global Forwarding and validates that we are on the right track in driving sustainable logistics solutions in the maritime sector to contribute to climate protection. Following this great success, we have decided to continue the decarbonisation of all LCL shipments for our customers at no extra costs.”

The GoGreen Plus service from DHL opens the way for a clean and sustainable transition to the ocean and air freight transportation. DHL’s customers can use GoGreen Plus to get a variety of solutions for reducing logistics-related emissions and other environmental consequences across the whole supply chain.
As a result, CO2 emissions in air and ocean freight are reduced, and the entire supply chain is rendered climate neutral through complete lifecycle emission compensation.
The GoGreen Plus product offering is part of the Group’s 2030 mid-term sustainability plan and contributes to the sub-target of sustainable fuels covering at least 30% of fuel demand.
To meet the Paris Climate Agreement’s goal of reducing CO2 emissions, the Group will invest €7 billion in sustainable fuels and clean technology by 2030.
