Rail Vikas Nigam establishes new subsidiary in Uzbekistan

State-run Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) has established a subsidiary, “Rail Vikas Nigam LLC,” in Uzbekistan as part of its strategic expansion into the international market. This move follows the company’s successful foray into overseas projects, including its first in the Maldives.

During a recent conference call, Rajesh Prasad, Director of Operations at RVNL, revealed that the company participated in 142 bids in the financial year FY 2023-24, bringing the total to 286 bids valued at over Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Prasad highlighted the company’s robust bid success rate of over 20%.

“We have actively participated in international bids across Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman, Rwanda, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and Nepal. Our goal is to expand our global presence,” Prasad stated. He also mentioned RVNL’s submission of expressions of interest for projects with Botswana Railways and the Namibia Trans-Kalahari project team.

RVNL has already established international offices in South Africa, Oman, UAE, and Maldives, underscoring its commitment to global growth. “We are keen to expand our footprint further and increase our order book, which currently stands at around Rs 85,000 crore,” Prasad added.

This international expansion aligns with RVNL’s strategy to enhance its global market share and leverage opportunities in the rapidly growing international rail infrastructure sector. As a Navratna company, RVNL’s move to incorporate a subsidiary in Uzbekistan and its aggressive participation in international bids reflect its ambition to become a major player on the global stage.
