Etihad Cargo, the logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has announced a strategic joint venture with SF Airlines, a subsidiary of SF Holding, aimed at improving global trade routes. This collaboration builds on an already successful partnership that has significantly enhanced connectivity between China, the UAE, and global markets.
Key representatives from both airlines recently met at SF Airlines’ headquarters in Shenzhen to formalise their intention to establish this joint venture, which is seen as a milestone in the 40-year diplomatic relationship between the UAE and China. The joint venture will focus on several key enhancements: increased aircraft capacity, improved transit times, and an interconnected network that will expand SF Express’s international express services.
These improvements promise to offer customers greater flexibility and faster connections to Europe. The partnership is expected to increase the number of flight frequencies, hubs, and destinations served, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency for both airlines.
“This historic joint venture is a true testament to the robust and growing relationship between the UAE and China,” said Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of Etihad Airways. “We are excited to embark on this journey with SF Airlines, enabling us to provide greater connectivity, flexibility, and speed in both e-commerce and traditional air cargo sectors.”
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, emphasised that this collaboration supports Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a global logistics hub. By aligning their strengths, both airlines aim to contribute significantly to the economic growth and diversification of the UAE and China.
Wang Wei, Chairman of SF Holding, remarked on the joint venture’s potential to set new industry standards in air cargo logistics, particularly to meet the rising demand for e-commerce and parcel delivery. As plans move forward, further updates and a definitive agreement are expected soon, marking an important step for both airlines in enhancing their operations.
