Swiggy and MSDE launch ‘Swiggy Skills’ initiative to boost skilling in logistics

In alignment with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Swiggy to launch the ‘Swiggy Skills’ initiative. This collaboration aims to provide a wide range of skilling, employment, and training opportunities within Swiggy’s extensive food delivery and quick commerce network. Through this initiative, Swiggy will offer employment, internships, and training opportunities in restaurant operations and various aspects of retail management.

Under the Swiggy Skills initiative, the Swiggy partner platform will be integrated with the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), allowing Swiggy’s workforce to access online skill development courses, certifications, and training modules. The partnership is expected to benefit around 2.4 lakh delivery partners and the staff of restaurant partners associated with Swiggy.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasised the importance of the logistics sector in achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He noted, “For India to realise the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047, the logistics sector will play a key role. Our government has launched the National Logistics Policy in India, and we are committed to creating an enabling ecosystem where skilling and education work hand in hand. Today’s partnership exemplifies how public-private collaborations can open new avenues for the workforce in this sector.”

Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, highlighted the transformative impact of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration will drive transformation at two levels. It will enhance the economic contribution of the retail and supply chain logistics sector while creating skilling, upskilling, and reskilling opportunities for the workforce, aligned with the vision of our Prime Minister.”

The Swiggy partner platform, integrated with SIDH, will provide access to skill loans, courses, credits, and certifications, empowering individuals to enhance their skills and livelihood opportunities. Smt. Sonal Mishra, Joint Secretary, MSDE, and other senior officials from the Ministry were also present at the launch event.

Swiggy, a leading homegrown consumer brand operating in nearly 700 cities, has established itself as a pioneer in food delivery and quick commerce. With a vast network of delivery executives and restaurant partners, the Swiggy Skills initiative aims to upskill and empower its ecosystem.

Through this initiative, Swiggy will assimilate youth trained under MSDE’s schemes into various roles within its operations. Swiggy also plans to provide internships, leading to potential recruitment within its quick commerce operations, targeting around 3,000 new hires across the country.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “We plan to integrate MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) across our partners’ apps, enabling access to online skill development courses, offline certifications, and training modules. Moreover, youngsters trained under MSDE’s programmes will be connected to Swiggy’s ecosystem for suitable opportunities in retail and logistics management.”

The initiative also includes plans to provide in-house training on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Marketing, Retail, Quick Commerce, and Logistics, under Swiggy’s employee volunteering program, further contributing to the workforce’s professional growth and development.
