FFFAI Chairman addresses ‘LOGIX INDIA 2022’ in Dubai, expects CEPA– FTA to boost logistics business

The third edition of LOGIX India 2022, held during “EXPO 2020 Dubai” in Dubai from March 21 to 23, 2022, was inaugurated by H E Dr Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi Minister of State for Foreign Trade, UAE. Speaking on this occasion he stated that India-UAE Trade Agreement would offer a big boost to the logistics sector.

"India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CEPA) shall result in accelerated trade and investment and shall open a new world of opportunities. India is UAE's largest Non-Oil Trade partner and the future is bright for India-UAE collaborations in Global supply chain logistics,” he stated.

Thanking H E Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi for inaugurating the event, Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said, "India is committed to spend US$1.5 trillion on various infrastructure in the next 5 years which will facilitate our logistics by bringing efficiency and reducing its cost. Logistics is an important component of the economy and its role in manufacturing and exports can hardly be undermined.”

The FIEO President pointed out that at present the logistics cost in India is about 14% of GDP as against the international benchmark of 8-9%. However, the focus of the Government in addressing the cost through various measures have already started yielding results. Government is implementing the dual Bharatmala (road network) and Sagarmala (waterways network) to improve logistics backbone.

According to H E Ahmed Mahboob, Director General of Dubai Customs and the CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, UAE has made significant progress in technology upgradation in customs and logistics sector and looks forward to support India in its mission for logistics sector transformation.

Complementing FIEO on organising LOGIX India in UAE, Sandeep Kumar Bayyapu, Deputy Chief of Mission, Indian Embassy, UAE mentioned, "The Indian economy is on the upswing. We have become the fastest growing major economy in the world. We endeavour to become a US$5 trillion economy by 2026. Indian logistics companies should form good partnerships with UAE companies and take advantage of technical expertise available in the region.”

The Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations in India (FFFAI), which represented the logistics sector with a more than 120-memer delegation to the ‘World Expo 2020’ along with ‘LOGIX INDIA 2022’ expressed huge expectations regarding the increase of bilateral trade between India and UAE.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shankar Shinde, Chairman, FFFAI said that the FIEO organised mega event would have far reaching impact on the international trade of both the countries i.e. India and UAE. He thanked the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for supporting the FIEO to organise this important event with delegation from India including FFFAI.

Shinde stated that FFFAI being the national body of customs brokers and logistics service providers plays important role in facilitating the EXIM trade.

Shinde further highlighted that FFFAI provides regular inputs to the Government of India on various logistics trade challenges faced by the trade. In association with the government FFFAI conducts study on international project concerning creation of connectivity with new opportunities for EXIM trade and seamless movement.

“The participation itself has shown the seriousness of Indian business with UAE and searching for increasing trade partnership. We appreciate the efforts taken to organise the ‘Expo 2020 Dubai ’ and the participation response from several countries to join on the common platform to showcase their strength with innovative ideas for expansion of trade,” Shinde added.

According to the FFFAI Chairman, technology plays a very vital role in logistics and the industry people look forward to have a single window IT platform for the community in association with technology partners.

“The future of logistics is digital with paperless, faceless, contactless integration with seamless movement and hence we have our next convention organised in August focussed on digital to leverage logistics performance with international participation,” he added.

Shinde shared the success story of the FIATA World Congress which was held in September 2018 in India, organised by FFFAI. The event received tremendous responses from the logistics industry from across the world and created leadership position in logistics sector for India.

He pointed out that Indian Government plans to spend US$1.5 trillion in improving infrastructure and most of the investments will take place in improving airports, ports, roads and rail connectivity.

Sizeable investments will also be made in AI, IoT and Big Data for transformation of the supply chain and logistics industry.

“Global Logistics market size is estimated at US$4.3 trillion. With the recent signing of INDIA - UAE FTA, the trade opportunities between the two countries are expected to grow at phenomenal pace. Trade is expected to touch USD 100 billion in the next 5 years and most Indian items are now duty free to UAE,” Shinde added.

About 100 Indian companies were in UAE at the 3rd Edition of LOGIX India to meet their prospective trade partners and FIEO is playing a key role to facilitate trade and investments in the sector.

"We are excited at the prospects being offered in UAE post CEPA agreement and we look forward to exploring markets in Africa and MENA region through UAE," stated Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO, FIEO.

The Inauguration ceremony session was also addressed and attended by Abdul Rahman bin Haider, Head of World Logistics Programme, UAE; Suresh Kumar, Chairman, Indian Business & Professional Council, UAE; and Nadia Abdul Aziz, President, National Association of Freight Logistics, UAE.

Followed by the inauguration of LOGIX INDIA 2022 the Business Session held on March 22 regarding India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was addressed by Dr A Sakthivel; AV Vijayakumar, Immediate Past Chairman, FFFAI; Parul Singh, Deputy Secretary, Dept of Commerce, Government of India; Omar Alkhan Abdulla, Director Dubai Chamber International Offices, UAE; Humaid Bin Salem, Chairman, The International Chamber of Commerce, UAE; as well as by Nadia Abdul Aziz and Dr Ajay Sahai.

The Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations in India (FFFAI) held its 6th EC Meeting for the term 2021-23 on May 27 and 28 in Bengaluru. The meeting was attended by the Office Bearers and 28 Member Association representative of FFFAI from across the country, there were many issues discussed and updates provided concerning customs, CBLR, EDI, Service Tax/GST, logistics, air cargo, sea cargo, skill development,importance of social media which FFFAI has expanded recently, technology developments, etc. The special focus of the 6th EC meeting was the updates on forthcoming 24th Biennial Convention of FFFAI to be held from August 12 to 14, 2022 in Chennai with the theme LOGISTICS RESHAPE, EMBRACE AND SURGE IN THE DIGITAL ERA. At this EC meeting, FFFAI also implemented Digital Learning platform for members and next generation for e-learning. It has been decided that FFFAI would initiate FIATA eFBL here in India to benefit the trade, which empowers customs brokers, freight forwarders and logistics service providers. In addition, updates on the recently held FIATA HQ Meet was also provided by the concerned members of FFFAI. FFFAI members present at this EC meeting stressed upon enhancing productivity on ICEGATE for trade facilitation and Ease of Doing Business. The FFFAI members also urged for creating a dedicated portal for LSP integration. As regard to skill development initiatives, IIFF’s (training arm of FFFAI) past and forthcoming training programmes (both online and classroom/physical) for the entire logistics industry were presented at the EC meeting. In addition, FFFAI’s various initiatives on capacity building through technology/IT also discussed withadequate importance. Recent activities of FFFAI Women’s Wing including organising interactive meetings with Government of India officials and industry experts were highlighted at this meeting which drew huge appreciation from the members. The members committed to expand the activities of the Women’s Wing in all the 28 member association locations to empower/encourage the women logistics practitioners. At this EC meeting FFFAI has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) with an objective of skilling the aspiring candidates looking for opportunities in the logistics sector. Notably, a special session was organised at this 6th EC Meeting where N Sivasailam, former Special Secretary (Logistics), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India was present to address the FFFAI members and highlight the recent initiatives of the government in strengthening the logistics infrastructure, thereby leading in increase of international trade through multimodal connectivity and faster cargo clearance. He projected the ambitious growth potential of the logistics industry in India with a strong collaboration between government and industry people. Also speaking on the occasion was Bani Bhattacharya, IRS, who interacted with members of FFFAI on various initiatives of CBIC for the trade facilitation without human intervention. ESR India inks MoU with Tamil Nadu Government to set up two industrial parks in the state

ESR India, the largest APAC focused industrial and logistics real estate platform, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu for a potential investment of INR 550 crores. The MOU is signed for the launch of two industrial parks in Kancheepuram and Krishnagiri districts of the state over the next five years. Once fully operational, the two projects have the potential to create over 4,400 jobs in the facility, that shall boost the overall socio-economic growth in the region. The MoU was signed at the Investment Conclave 2021 conference held today. It will facilitate ESR India’s proposed investment at Kancheepuram and Krishnagiri industrial parks by helping in streamlining land acquisition, approvals, clearances, and administrative processes as per existing policies, rules, and regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The policy and regulatory reforms unveiled in recent times has accentuated the entry of international institutional players and has set new benchmarks for industrial developments in the country. Commenting on the development, Abhijit Malkani, CEO and Country Head, ESR India said, “We are delighted to announce our affiliation with the state government. The Government of Tamil Nadu has been very supportive in encouraging industrial developments in the state by creating a favourable business climate for industrial players. The MoU will see ESR invest INR 550 crores to develop industrial parks in Tamil Nadu, offering 1,800 direct and 2,600 indirect job opportunities in the facility.” “Our goals are aligned with the vision of the Tamil Nadu government, to create avenues to increase business and trade inclusion opportunities and employment towards garnering better economic growth in the region,” he further stated. UP government invests Rs 7,064 crore in Dadri multi-modal logistics hub

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to develop a multi-modal logistics hub (MMLH) in Greater Noida’s Dadri, investing Rs 7,064 crore to support its $1 trillion economy goal. This hub will cover 823 acres, with a core development area spanning 455 acres. Key developments include commercial and administrative facilities over 17.5 acres, a rail yard, and other projects across 350 acres. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives, a detailed action plan has been designed to expedite these initiatives. The Dadri MMLH aims to become a world-class freight handling facility, functioning as a dry port to ensure the swift transit of goods and raw materials. This project is poised to be India's largest logistics hub. Located on the eastern and western dedicated freight corridors, it will serve as a central hub for container handling, warehousing, cold storage, processing, de-stuffing, stuffing, and value-added packing. Providing seamless rail connectivity, the hub will feature rail platforms, customs clearance facilities, cargo segregation areas, truck parking zones, and extensive green spaces. The project is being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, supervised by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and adhering to the guidelines of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT). The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority has prepared the Master Detailed Project Report (DPR) for constructing the approach track and Rail Over Rail (ROR) bridge from New Dadri station to the MMLH boundary. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has approved the DPR for railway tracks and terminal stations within the MMLH. Additionally, the tender documentation for land acquisition and signaling processes for the approach track has been finalized. Concurrently, the development of trunk infrastructure, including boundary work, roads, canals, bridges, utility relocation, and water and power supply, is progressing through various phases.
