Turkish Cargo, the air cargo division of Turkish Airlines, has achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts. The global brand has been awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) v4.1 O+M: EB Operations Certification at the platinum level for its SMARTIST cargo facility. This certification underscores Turkish Cargo’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Ali Turk, Chief Cargo Officer of Turkish Airlines, emphasised the importance of sustainability in their operations. “Sustainability and environmental awareness are among our top priorities. The platinum certification for our SMARTIST cargo facility highlights our commitment to these principles. We are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring our facilities are not only technologically advanced but also environmentally friendly and people-oriented,” he stated.
SMARTIST, a state-of-the-art cargo facility, utilises advanced technology for efficient and eco-friendly operations. The facility features a computer-controlled Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) and an automated ULD Storage System, eliminating the need for operators or forklifts. These innovations streamline operations, reduce potential issues, and achieve significant cost savings.
The LEED v4.1 O+M: EB Platinum Certification focuses on enhancing energy and water efficiency, improving material and interior quality, and minimising environmental impact.
