Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), a subsidiary of India’s leading wagon manufacturer Jupiter Wagons, has achieved a significant milestone by securing approval from The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for its battery-operated light commercial vehicle (LCV), branded as JEM TEZ. This certification, which ensures compliance with Central Motor Vehicles Rules, paves the way for JEM to commence commercial production of JEM TEZ.
According to an official release, JEM TEZ is poised to revolutionise the market as the first 1-ton commercial electric vehicle (EV). Designed for optimal performance and efficiency, JEM TEZ features cutting-edge fast charging technology, allowing it to charge from 0 to 100 percent in approximately 20 minutes at combined charging stations—the fastest charging time in the industry. Additionally, the onboard charger can fully charge the vehicle in less than 2 hours. With a certified range of 127 kilometers, JEM TEZ is well-suited for various commercial applications.
The vehicle is also equipped with telematics for real-time diagnosis, maintenance, and support, ensuring swift resolution of any issues to enhance fleet reliability and efficiency.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, expressed his excitement over the ARAI approval, stating, “This validation underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in the electric mobility sector. JEM TEZ represents a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for India. Considering the rapid growth across sectors and the cost benefits of EVs, we believe EVs will eventually dominate the ICE market. The government’s vision of a green future and supportive policies will further boost this segment.”
Gaurav Jalota, CEO of Jupiter Electric Mobility, added, “With JEM TEZ, we are setting new benchmarks in the commercial EV segment. Our focus is on delivering a high-quality product that supports the nation’s goals of reducing pollution and emissions. We are excited to lead the transformation of India’s transportation landscape towards cleaner and greener mobility solutions.”
JEM plans to expand its electric vehicle portfolio to include medium commercial vehicles (MCV), heavy commercial vehicles (HCV), and buses in the future.
