Global freight forwarder Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has announced its strategic expansion into Saudi Arabia by establishing new locations in Riyadh and Jeddah. This move provides SGL with an immediate presence in the economic hubs of the Central and West Provinces, with plans to open an additional office in Dammam in the East Province in 2024. This expansion underscores the company’s recognition of the market potential in Saudi Arabia.
The establishment of a local presence in Saudi Arabia grants SGL access to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Saudi Arabia’s strategic location serves as a central gateway to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Europe, Asia, and Africa, positioning the country as an ideal distribution hub for these regions.
“Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and a major player in international trade. By establishing our own organisation and presence, we can better control our service offerings to local and global customers,” said Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of SGL.
Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in infrastructure projects to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on oil. The country’s increasing buying demand necessitates enhanced logistics capabilities. Saudi Arabia’s robust transportation infrastructure, including air, ocean, and road networks, ensures efficient trade and commerce, allowing businesses to easily access regional and international markets.
Mohamed Afifi, the new Managing Director of Saudi Arabia, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity: “I am delighted to lead our new team in Saudi Arabia. The new offices will begin with 20-25 employees in the first year and are expected to grow to 50 employees by the second year. This expansion marks a significant milestone in SGL’s strategic growth plan.
