Hapag-Lloyd rebrands terminal division as Hanseatic Global Terminals

On July 1, 2024, Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal and infrastructure division adopted a new brand name, Hanseatic Global Terminals, reflecting its growth ambitions and maritime heritage. The rebranding aimed to signify the company’s commitment to quality and expansive terminal operations, inspired by the Hanseatic League, a historic association of seafaring merchants in Northern Europe.

Hanseatic Global Terminals, based in Rotterdam, commenced operations in June 2023 as a fully-owned but independent standalone business unit. The rebranding was intended to increase operational efficiency and promote sustainable growth, benefiting customers and partners worldwide. Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals and a member of the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd, emphasised the company’s dedication to quality, efficiency, and sustainability. He noted that customers and partners would experience more reliable and efficient services, while the increased manageability would support sustainability efforts.

The company is set to manage and consolidate terminal and infrastructure investments across 20 terminals in 11 countries. Key locations include Container Terminal Altenwerder in Hamburg, JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven, Terminal TC3 in Tangier, and Terminal 2 in Damietta, which is currently under construction. Hanseatic Global Terminals also oversees terminals in the Americas, acquired through the acquisition of Chile-based SAAM Terminals’ business, and in India through investment in J M Baxi Ports & Logistics. Additionally, the company holds a minority stake in the Spinelli Group.

This strategic rebranding is a significant step for Hanseatic Global Terminals, reflecting its ambitions for sustainable growth and enhanced service quality, solidifying its position in the global terminal operations market.
