Launch of “Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory” document

In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, launched the “Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory” on August 21, 2024, in New Delhi. The event at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe saw participation from key government and industry stakeholders, including representatives from NITI Aayog, IIT Madras, and the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

The policy advisory document is a comprehensive blueprint aimed at accelerating the adoption of Zero Emission Trucks (ZETs) in India, crucial for achieving the nation’s Net Zero 2070 target. It outlines 30 strategic interventions across five areas: incentives, regulations, infrastructure, business and financing, and stakeholder initiatives.

Prof. Sood emphasised the need for systematic policy support to enable ZET adoption, while additional speakers from NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Heavy Industries highlighted the roadmap towards 100% ZET sales by 2050. The document will undergo further refinement through stakeholder consultations, ensuring its effectiveness in transforming India’s logistics sector.
