CMA CGM opens 4,000 TEU capacity container depot in Indonesia, largest among its existing four

Demonstrating its commitment to go the “extra mile” for Indonesian shippers, CMA CGM group has opened its fourth and largest container depot in Cakung, Jakarta.

The Cakung depot occupies a space of 35,000 sq mt, and as CMA CGM’s Marunda (Jakarta) facility now operating at full capacity, its opening is timely in catering to Indonesia’s growing exports.

As the Cakung depot is situated in close proximity to the neighbouring industrial warehouses, travel time and distance between the facilities are significantly reduced.

John Lim, General Manager of CMA CGM – Indonesia said, “Our new depot in Cakung is designed to greatly improve our inland logistics service and optimise our shipments in better ways.”

In addition to its new Cakung depot and Marunda facility, CMA CGM also operates depots in Cikarang and Surabaya.

These depots handle more than just container stuffing, cleaning and repair as well as pre-tip inspection, pre-cooling and reefer monitoring services.

They specialise in converting standard containers into customised containers such as Garment on Hanger containers which keep garments in pristine conditions from factory to shops.

The depots also have expertise in installing Traxens devises on containers for end-to-end visibility by shippers and Flexitank in containers for transportation of liquids such as fish oil from Indonesia.

Lim added, “Increasingly, we are handling more customised cargoes such as Garment on Hanger containers and Flexitank containers for liquids that will require special handling by our in-house exports.”

Indonesia is synonymous with produce such as paper and rubber among others; as well as manufactured garments, footwear and electronic products that CMA CGM ships with care following cargo priming at its various depots.

Lim noted that CMA CGM’s depots were “therefore important in enabling CMA CGM to fulfil the high standards we promise our Indonesian exporters and shippers”.

Shippers now have two depot options by the group in Jakarta that they can rely on for their logistics and shipping needs.
