X-Press Feeders achieved a historic milestone towards sustainable shipping with the arrival and successful refuelling of its first dual-fuel vessel in Singapore. This vessel, the first to dock and refuel with green methanol in the Port of Singapore, highlights the nation’s commitment to renewable fuels in the global maritime industry.
The technologically advanced vessel, the first of its kind built in China, is equipped with a German-designed MAN 5S50ME dual-fuel engine, allowing it to operate on green methanol. Currently on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Rotterdam, the vessel made a crucial stop in Singapore for refuelling while cargo was loaded and unloaded.
“This milestone represents a significant leap forward for X-Press Feeders and the global maritime industry,” said Francis Goh, X-Press Feeders’ Chief Operating Officer. “We are proud to lead in developing and implementing innovative solutions that will drastically reduce the maritime shipping industry’s environmental footprint. By pioneering dual-fuel vessels, we are taking significant steps to meet greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.”
The vessel will play a pivotal role in establishing X-Press Feeders’ new green feeder routes in Q3 2024 – the Green Baltic X-PRESS (GBX) and Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX), Europe’s first feeder network powered by green methanol.
The planned routes are:
– Green Baltic X-PRESS (GBX): Rotterdam > Antwerp Bruges > Klaipeda > Riga > Rotterdam
– Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX): Rotterdam > Antwerp Bruges > Helsinki > Tallinn > HaminaKotka > Rotterdam
In mid-May, X-Press Feeders received the first of 14 dual-fuel ships ordered from New Yangzijiang Shipyard. The green methanol-powered feeder routes will center in the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp Bruges, with a firm contract with Dutch fuel supplier OCI Global to supply green methanol. OCI Global, the world’s leading green methanol producer, provides ISCC EU (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certified methanol, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65%.
