The Tuticorin International Container Terminal, a pivotal new facility enhancing east-west trade routes, will be inaugurated today by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. Operated by JM Baxi Group, the terminal begins operations on September 16. Strategically located at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port on India’s east coast, this terminal is set to become a crucial node connecting significant commercial routes including the Gulf, Suez, Africa, Australia, and South-East Asia.
The Tuticorin Container Terminal’s prime location positions it as a vital hub for freight movements from the USA and Europe. It is expected to serve a large hinterland region encompassing Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. By facilitating improved connectivity and efficiency in coastal and EXIM trade, this terminal is poised to play a significant role in enhancing India’s logistics infrastructure and global trade positioning.
