NHAI and DDA to develop three logistics parks and freight villages

The National Highway Authority of India and Delhi Development Authority Agreed to the proposal of developing three logistics parks and freight villages along Urban Extension Road -II (UER) as part of Delhi Master Plan.

The three logistics parks are aimed at shifting a large share of trucks and heavy vehicle traffic into the new highways from major stretches of the capital to decongest it roads.

Currently, daily around 60,000 trucks ply on Delhi roads to transport around 9.5 lakh tones of freight. While approximately 25,000 trucks are destined for the national capital, 16000 trucks pass through the city and the rest 19000 trucks originate from Delhi carrying goods to other parts of the country.

According to the proposal, three freight villages would come up at Holambi Kalan in Narela, Baprola and Mundka with a total area of 177 hectares to decongest Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. All these locations are near to the UER-II. Sources said even the current Transport Nagar can be redeveloped with an investment potential of Rs 20,000 crore.
