FedEx has announced its continued collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a key partner in the PM POSHAN program in India. As part of this collaboration, FedEx has donated seven electric vehicles to The Akshaya Patra Foundation to enhance the efficiency of meal distribution in Panvel, Delhi, and Narsingi. By replacing traditional fuel-based vehicles with electric ones, the foundation aims to reduce its carbon footprint and redirect more resources toward its mission of providing nutritious meals to school children. In addition to this donation, FedEx also supported the provision of mid-day meals to 550,000 children in need.
The electric vehicles are expected to streamline The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s distribution processes, allowing for smoother meal deliveries and aiding administrative tasks, including advocacy efforts related to the Mid-Day Meal program. The support from FedEx is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainability. Last year, the two organisations collaborated on several eco-friendly projects, including the installation of solar panels in Panvel, the distribution of electric bikes in Bellary, and the provision of 137,602 mid-day meals to school children across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Suvendu Choudhury, Vice President of India Operations and Customer Experience for FedEx in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa, emphasised the company’s broader sustainability vision. “At FedEx, our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our own operations,” Choudhury said. “We aim to inspire businesses and communities worldwide to adopt sustainable practices, creating a ripple effect. Our collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation drives these broader sustainability efforts by integrating solutions such as EVs and solar panels into their daily operations, benefiting the environment and transforming the lives of millions of children.”
Shridhar Venkat, CEO of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, expressed gratitude for FedEx’s ongoing support and its impact on the foundation’s work. “We are immensely grateful for FedEx’s continued support in our mission to nourish the future of India,” Venkat stated. “Their commitment to sustainability and community welfare aligns perfectly with our goals, and together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of children across the country.”
