In line with the 100 Days Achievements initiative of the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is set to revolutionise its supply chain operations through an ambitious digital transformation project. The initiative introduces the ANNA DARPAN system, a microservices-based integrated supply chain management system designed to modernise FCI’s existing Depot Online System. This transformative effort aims to streamline and enhance operations across various levels, including Mandis, Mills, and Depots, along with divisional, regional, zonal, and headquarters operations.
To facilitate this comprehensive overhaul, FCI has partnered with M/s Coforge Limited, selected as the system integrator through a contract signed on June 14, 2024. Coforge will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the ANNA DARPAN system. This project is envisioned as a turnkey solution that will incorporate a cloud hosting environment and utilise a service mesh architecture for seamless communication among microservices, along with API-based integration with external applications associated with FCI.
A crucial aspect of the ANNA DARPAN system is its focus on data analytics, which will empower FCI to make more informed, data-driven decisions. The key objectives of the system are aligned with FCI’s strategic vision and include enhancing efficiency and productivity, creating an interactive and user-friendly interface, and ensuring integration with both internal and external systems. Additionally, the project aims to merge existing internal systems to reduce redundancy and adopt a mobile-first approach, ensuring accessibility anytime and anywhere.
Currently, M/s Coforge Limited is conducting extensive requirement gathering, analysis, and documentation to tailor the ANNA DARPAN system to FCI’s specific needs. This process involves a thorough study of FCI’s operations, including existing process flows and potential integration opportunities with current FCI-related applications. Representatives from Coforge, working closely with FCI’s IT Division, have initiated several activities to capture the full spectrum of FCI’s operational ecosystem, including visits to multiple field offices.
As the requirement gathering progresses, FCI is poised to embark on a new chapter in supply chain management, leveraging advanced technology to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness in line with its mission to ensure food security across India.
