Lufthansa Cargo has announced the addition of Monterrey, Mexico, to its freighter flight schedule, making it the first European cargo airline to connect Europe with this North American city. Starting June 3, 2024, customers can book freight from Frankfurt to Monterrey, with the route including stops in Mexico City (NLU) and Monterrey International Airport (MTY) before returning to Frankfurt. The service, operated by a B777F, will run every Monday, catering to automotive, electronics, and medical product sectors.
“We are pleased to add Monterrey to our freighter network. Connecting this industrial city with Europe highlights our strategic growth into new markets and reinforces our mission of Enabling Global Business,” said Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. The new route increases Lufthansa Cargo’s North American freighter frequencies to up to 33 weekly, and South American frequencies to up to four weekly, in addition to belly flights.
Lufthansa Cargo is also enhancing its global network. A new stop in Dubai (DWC) will be added to its Shanghai-Frankfurt route. This summer, Lufthansa Airlines will offer direct belly flights from Frankfurt to Minneapolis and Raleigh-Durham, while Austrian Airlines will connect Vienna with Los Angeles and Boston. Discover Airlines will fly from Frankfurt to Anchorage and Halifax, Canada. Brussels Airlines will expand its summer schedule with flights from Brussels to Nairobi and Kigali.
From Munich, Lufthansa Airlines will add destinations such as Trondheim, Nantes, Oulu, and Chișinău, as well as Seattle, Toronto, and Vancouver in North America. Overall, Lufthansa Cargo customers will have access to up to 7,000 weekly flights across the Lufthansa Group.
Additionally, the A321P2F freighter fleet will see an increased short- and medium-haul network this summer, with a new stopover in Riga, Latvia, on the Frankfurt-Helsinki route.
