“K” LINE Group companies to establish new cold and dry warehouses in Thailand

Two Thailand-based group firms of major Japanese shipping operator Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (“K” Line) will build warehouses near Bangkok to help meet expanding distribution demand and diverse customer needs.

K Line Container Service (Thailand) Ltd (KCST) and Bangkok Cold Storage Service Ltd (BCS) will establish new cool and dry warehouses in the Bang Na district near Bangkok.

The planned construction site is located about 30 km from downtown Bangkok, 35 km from Bangkok Port, 100 km from Laem Chabang Port and 23 km from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

“K Line has decided to build new warehouses for supporting the expanding distribution demand in Thailand and the diverse needs of our customers. Both BCS and KCST have been operating warehouse businesses for more than 30 years in Thailand, K Line continues to provide high-quality services to meet the customer’s sophisticated demands with new cold and dry warehouses,” said a spokesperson for K Line.

Currently, BCS operates two freezing ad refrigerating warehouses in two locations in the Thepharak and Bang Na districts while KCST operates 10 dry warehouses in the Bang Na, Amata City Chonburi and Bangpra districts.

The new cold warehouse, operated by BCS, covers 7,240 sq mt – split between freezing storage, refrigerated storage, constant temperature storage and a handling place – and offer a total cargo storage capacity of 8,550 tonnes.

BCS aims to be one of the world leading energy-saving freezing and refrigerating warehouses by minimising the amount of operating power and supplying 50% of the required power with solar power generation.

The warehouse complies with HACCP, GMP and GDP which are standards for food and drug storage.

The new dry warehouse, operated by KCST, offers 12,000 sq mt of space for general cargo storage, distribution processing, packaging and more and is designed to be compatible with e-commerce products.

KCST will install high storage racks to increase the number of storage locations and the warehouse will be able store small quantities of various types. K Line’s management plan positions logistics as a main business that contributes to stable profits and the company will continue to promote the development of the logistics business, mainly in Southeast Asia.
