DNV partners with MPSF for Greener Maritime Future

Classification society DNV has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF) to collaborate on projects focused on decarbonisation, digitalisation, emissions management, and safety within the maritime sector. MPSF, a non-profit arm of the Mumbai Port Authority, aims to enhance the sustainability of local ports and maritime companies through its Centre of Excellence on ESG and circularity.

The partnership will leverage DNV’s expertise to guide MPSF in areas such as regulatory compliance, technological advancements, and safety protocols in the maritime and energy sectors. The collaboration will also explore commercial opportunities in low-carbon fuel bunkering, storage, and transfer, among other sustainability initiatives.

R.D. Tripathi, CEO of MPSF, highlighted the significance of the MoU, stating, “The joint working of DNV with MPSF through this MoU will facilitate in-depth analysis of issues and innovative solutions for overall sustainability and greening opportunities of the port operation.”

Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, Regional Manager South East Asia, Pacific & India, Maritime at DNV, emphasised the transformative potential of the partnership, noting, “This MoU represents a significant step forward in developing and modernising port infrastructure to support the transition to cleaner energy sources. It reflects our shared commitment to driving innovation, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient maritime future.”

The collaboration underscores a strategic move towards greener port operations, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly maritime practices.
