Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller Holding and Maersk, on September 23 to explore expanded investment opportunities in Vietnam. The meeting underscored Vietnam’s potential as a vital hub for logistics and port infrastructure development, with A.P. Moller Holding expressing strong interest in contributing to the country’s growth, particularly in deepwater container ports and logistics.
Uggla lauded the Vietnamese government’s efforts to improve the business environment and attract foreign investments, emphasising A.P. Moller Holding’s long-term vision for Vietnam. “A.P. Moller Holding sees vast potential in Vietnam, and we are eager to contribute further to its development,” he stated, while also praising the country’s digital transformation and green transition initiatives.
The chairman highlighted existing partnerships in Vietnam, including with Samsung and Hateco Group, stressing the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the country. Maersk and A.P. Moller Terminals aim to play a crucial role in developing Vietnam’s maritime and logistics infrastructure, including green and smart port projects.
Prime Minister Chinh welcomed the group’s commitment, pointing to the growing Vietnam-Denmark partnership. He emphasised the recently launched Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership as a significant milestone for fostering sustainable development between the two countries. Chinh praised A.P. Moller and Maersk for their contributions to Vietnam’s maritime sector since the 1990s and encouraged further investments in key infrastructure projects, including the Lien Chieu Port in Da Nang and Can Gio International Port in Ho Chi Minh City.
Chinh stressed the importance of enhancing Vietnam’s logistics infrastructure, stating, “Vietnam has over 3,200 km of coastline and is among the top 20 economies in international trade. Improving logistics is essential to reducing costs and increasing competitiveness.”
A.P. Moller Holding and its subsidiaries are poised to deepen their involvement in Vietnam, exploring sustainable solutions and advanced digital systems to address global supply chain challenges.
