Savannah welcomes ONE Modern on new India-U.S. trade route

Ocean Network Express (ONE) Modern, the flagship vessel on ONE’s new West India North America (WIN) service, has marked its inaugural call at the Port of Savannah. This new connection between India and the Georgia Ports underscores the growing importance of India in global trade.

The WIN service provides a weekly route linking Bin Qasim, Hazira, Nhava Sheva, and Mundra in India to New York and Savannah, according to an official release from the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA). The inclusion of Savannah in this route highlights the strategic advantage of the port in facilitating efficient trade between India and the U.S. East Coast.

Griff Lynch, President and CEO of GPA, emphasised India’s emerging role as a manufacturing powerhouse. “India, with its massive population, burgeoning consumer market, and substantial infrastructure investments, offers significant trade opportunities via Savannah,” Lynch stated. He noted that shipments from India to the U.S. East Coast are more efficient compared to the West Coast, even with vessel diversions around Africa. “GPA’s connections to inland markets in the Southeast and Midwest are three to five days faster than West Coast ports,” Lynch added.

The WIN service is a significant addition to GPA’s offerings, bringing the total number of direct weekly services to India to four, with eight services connecting Savannah to the Indian Subcontinent overall. Operated by a fleet of nine vessels, the WIN service underscores ONE’s commitment to the growing trade market between India and the U.S.

Dan Sheehy, Senior Vice President, Product & Network at ONE, highlighted the service’s benefits for customers. “The WIN service provides a reliable and flexible weekly routing from Nhava Sheva and Mundra to the U.S. East Coast, showcasing ONE’s dedication to this crucial market,” Sheehy said.

This new service reinforces Savannah’s role as a pivotal hub for international trade, particularly with the dynamic Indian market.
