DP World has unveiled a significant expansion of its Australian operations with the launch of a new rail service at Stockland’s Yennora Intermodal Terminal, a key logistics facility in the Southern Hemisphere. The announcement was made during an official ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by notable figures including Julia Finn, Member for Granville (NSW); Amna Al-Suwaidi, Deputy Head of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Australia; Nicolaj Noes, Executive Vice President of Oceania at DP World; Tarun Gupta, Managing Director and CEO of Stockland; and Marika Calfas, CEO of NSW Ports.
Effective immediately, the Yennora Intermodal Terminal will operate two direct rail services daily to and from Port Botany via a dedicated rail line owned and operated by DP World. This port-rail service is projected to handle an annual rail capacity of 160,000 20-foot cargo shipping containers, known as TEUs, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce emissions by eliminating up to 160 truck trips per day.
This expansion signifies DP World’s commitment to providing an integrated supply chain solution encompassing landside operations, contract logistics, and freight forwarding. By enhancing its logistics capabilities, DP World aims to achieve cost efficiencies, reduce transit times, and enhance supply chain resilience.
Nicolaj Noes of DP World emphasised the company’s focus on establishing proprietary assets and infrastructure to facilitate seamless connections and enhance control and flexibility. This partnership with Stockland at the Yennora Intermodal Terminal enables DP World to tailor services to meet evolving customer needs while ensuring timely delivery of goods.
Tarun Gupta, Managing Director and CEO of Stockland, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with DP World, highlighting the terminal’s strategic location and direct connections to ports, roads, and rail, which enhance logistics capabilities for businesses. With over 70 hectares of land and 300,000 square meters of warehouse space, the Yennora Intermodal Terminal is poised to meet growing supply chain demands efficiently.
This expansion builds upon DP World’s strategic partnership with Stockland initiated in August 2023, which includes the operation of approximately 125,000 square meters of warehousing space at Yennora. With this rail service and warehousing facility, DP World aims to offer a fully integrated supply chain service to its customers, positioning itself as a leader in Australian logistics.
