Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, visited Chabahar, Iran, on May 13, 2024, to attend the signing ceremony for the Long-term Main Contract for developing the Shahid Beheshti Port Terminal. This contract, signed between India Port Global Limited (IPGL) and the Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) of Iran, marks a significant step in bilateral cooperation.
During his visit, Minister Sonowal held a productive bilateral meeting with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, H.E. Mehrdad Bazrpash. Both ministers reaffirmed their leaders’ shared vision to enhance bilateral connectivity initiatives and establish Chabahar Port as a regional connectivity hub.
The visit and the signing of the Long-term Contract underscore the strategic importance of Chabahar Port as a gateway for trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia. This project is a flagship initiative in India-Iran relations, aiming to boost regional trade and economic integration.
