Atlas Air has expanded its partnership with Cainiao Network, the logistics wing of Alibaba Group, to enhance the expanding commerce between China and Latin America.
Atlas Air’s flight schedule has increased daily from three times a week, and Cainiao’s weekly cargo volume from China to Latin America has increased by 144% compared to the launch of service in October 2020, the two companies said on Monday.
Atlas Air has deployed an additional Boeing 747-400 cargo plane between Hong Kong and Santiago in Chile, increasing Kaignao’s dedicated fleet to five. This service also flies to Brazil. Atlas Air’s fifth Boeing 747-400F flies between Hong Kong (HKG) and Santiago de Chile (SCL), with stopovers in Anchorage (ANC), Miami (MIA), and Sao Paulo (GRU).
This expanded fleet builds on the successful partnership between the two companies, which was launched in October 2020. The current Atlas-Cainiao partnership has improved overall warehousing distribution and airfreight efficiency by over 40% between the two regions.
Cainiao said it now offers a 12-day delivery service in Brazil’s major metropolitan areas, after the number of parcels shipped to Brazil in September increased by 200% compared to the same month last year. The company will also set up a distribution center in Brazil to partner with a local delivery company to provide next-day or same-day delivery.
“The partnership with Atlas Air will continue to strengthen our network between South America and other destinations around the world, further enhancing Cainiao’s ability to efficiently and reliably support merchants around the world,” said William Xiong, Chief Strategy Officer at Cainiao and General Manager of Export Logistics.
“We are very pleased that Cainiao and Alibaba have chosen Atlas as a strategic growth partner,” said President and CEO John W Dietrich, Atlas Air Worldwide.
“Through our successful relationship over the past year, Atlas’ global operational capabilities have empowered Cainiao to continue to offer its customers faster deliveries around the world. We are excited to add incremental capacity in support of this growing partnership,” concluded Dietrich.
