Saudi Global Ports (SGP), a member of the PSA Group, celebrated a significant milestone in May by handling its 10 millionth TEU since beginning commercial operations in 2015. To mark this achievement, SGP hosted the President of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and other government stakeholders at a celebration held at the Marine Tower at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam (Dammam Seaport).
Vincent Ng, Regional CEO for Europe & Mediterranean, and Middle East and South Asia, commented on the milestone: “SGP’s success today is a testament to the support from all port stakeholders, including Mawani and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and our customers. We are grateful to our staff for their hard work and dedication, enabling SGP to overcome various challenges and to scale new heights over the years.”
Ng further emphasised PSA International’s role, stating, “PSA International is proud to be SGP’s technical partner in their journey alongside the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic growth plans, aligning their strategy to develop King Abdulaziz Port into a key hub facilitating resilient, efficient and sustainable supply chains connecting the Kingdom and the region to the world through PSA’s global network of deep sea and inland ports.”
SGP has expanded significantly in Saudi Arabia since it began operating a single terminal at Dammam Seaport in 2015. By 2020, SGP had become the sole operator of both container terminals at the port. In 2022, SGP assumed operations of the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem, including the Riyadh Dry Port and Riyadh and Dammam Empty Container Yards. This expansion has helped shipping lines and cargo owners connect their containers from Dammam Seaport to key inland locations, notably Saudi Arabia’s capital and economic center, Riyadh.
In October 2023, SGP and Mawani announced their collaboration to develop the Dammam Integrated Logistics Zone, a 1 million sqm initiative aimed at positioning Dammam as a comprehensive and competitive logistics hub in the region.
